Tandoori Love

Sonja is a very attractive blonde. She works as a waitress at “Hirschen” a traditional country tavern in Gstaad, the jetset Swiss mountain resort. She is engaged to Markus, her boss. Sonja has never really questioned whether Markus is the love of her life – at least not until Rajah, a masterful Indian chef, begins courting her.

Rajah is the personal chef of Priya Dhavan, a gorgeous Bollywood superstar, who is shooting a new film in Gstaad. Unable to resist Sonja, Rajah abandons everything to win her favour. He ditches the film crew to work at the “Hirschen” completely unaware of Sonja and Markus’s engagement. While Rajah’s culinary talents take Gstaad by storm, Markus remains oblivious to his new chef’s ardent passion for his fiancée.

“Probably the most hilarious Swiss film ever made.”
Deutsche Welle TV

Emotional chaos erupts before long: Claiming Rajah hers, Priya resorts to desperate measures, throwing the filmset into upheaval. Sonja becomes more and more deeply trapped between two men representing two worlds – between Markus, who offers her security and status, and Rajah, whose charm and culinary magic she can neither elude nor resist …

“A candid and humorous look at Bollywood meeting Switzerland.”

Director’s note

“Drawing on Bollywood cinema, TANDOORI LOVE is a romantic comedy set in a Bernese Oberland tavern bogged down in tradition. The “Hirschen” – emblematic of drab, entrenched, and quirky Oberland village life, though not without its own particular appeal is ambushed by Bollywood – an artificial, flashy dreamworld marked by grand emotion and exaggerated sensuality.

What at first appear to be two irreconcilable worlds soon reveal some intriguing similarities. TANDOORI LOVE plays – and flirts – with the characteristics, prejudices, and identities of two radically different cultures.”

“Tandoori Love is a genuine feast of love produced out of a heart-warming recipe.”
